Sweetwood production

Jacqui Sussholz sings with such feeling, he can make your spine tingle. You’ll hear his heart and you’ll feel he knows your soul. He can be tender, joyous – listen to Veal Yedei (track 9)- or deeply moving, as on Babi Yar( 8). On a track like Rozo de Schabbos (16) he can make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Sussholz is the real thing: his traditional Yiddish and Hassidic music comes direct from the source, and you can hear it. The brilliant, richly-textured musical arrangements bring vibrant new life to Yiddish/Hassidic classics. This is music that transcends categories; music lovers everywhere will hear its call – and respond.Yiddish really is for ever – and for everyone.
The full 3-CD collection – 48 songs, more than 3 hours of great music
WHY THIS RECORD?
When I was 14, Hassidism (a quality of profound joy in the hassid’s attitude when serving God) strongly appealed to me. It provided me with human warmth and with certain answers, Two years later, I drifted away from Hassidism. It seemed to me that its approach was as incomplete as other ones. Moreover, I considered the sacrifices forced upon the hassidim, unjustified. Unlike others though, I did keep a deep respect towards Hassidism on account of all its positive aspects such as solidarity and human warmth. I also have vivid and faithful recollections of Hassidic music that I have never forsaken.
Now I am in my forties and my roots are still under scrutiny. Hence my Parisian friend Alain Ziegler’s insistence on my making this record, if not for success’s sake, than for our children’s sake. Let these melodies linger on as a tender and lasting memory in their minds.
